DCist

I found the DCist to be one of the most interesting blogs I looked at. I found the format of the blog itself including events taking place in the city to be very informative. I loved the simplicity of the blog's news. The articles and announcements posted on the blog were not dull or boring. Withing the DCist one can find nightlife events posted and comments and ratings about local restaurants.
They spoke of interesting news stories that a whole array of people would be happy reading. One blog I read discussed the issues of parking at the new baseball stadium being built in DC. The writers were informing not only members of the city but were attracting an audience of baseball fans from the area as well.
The entry does include a very serious yet informative tone that encourages citizens to be excited for the construction of the baseball stadium on North Carolina Ave. because of the boost it will place in the economy. The writer of the DCist blog I mentioned earlier is Martin Austermuhle.

I liked the fact that you chose a local blog to comment on. It is interesting to see the difference in what bloggers consider to be important based on location (among other factors). I also appreciated your relaxed tone, but at some spots it could have been tightened up a little to better present your comment. Great job covering all of the elements of the blog, direct just how I like it.

Along with what Dominic said about the blog, it's very interesting to see a blog that pertains to local events in the area. As college students living in the District we should really keep up with what is happening in "our" town and since we probably don't watch the nightly local news every night this blog can keep us informed. It's also really great that you told us that this blog has an array of information about DC, not just a particular topic, but others as well. Good job on covering all the points that were to be made, but I would have definitely like to have seen more description about what the blog had in it. When you said it talked about nightlife what specifically did it say, and when the new baseball field is built, how exactly will it effect the economy. Overall, i think you selected a very interesting blog to comment on.

You mentioned the author of the particular piece you read on this blog, but it might be important to also note that he's not the only writer - ie there are lots of people who write for dcist. This might change how we think about it, in the sense of what it's trying to be. As opposed to an individual's blog ("here are my thoughts about..."), the dcist blog aims a bit higher. How do you think a site like this would differ, information-wise, from something like the Washington Post? Do you think there's a select age group or socioeconomic demographic represented in its readership?
I think what dcist is doing (and many cities around the country have blogs like it) is new and different in the blogosphere -it's not just one person's rants or opinions (indeed, is most of it opinion?)
